How We Test and Research
We use the same research process for every guide so readers can see how a recommendation was reached. Unless an article states that we tested a product ourselves, our guides are research-based and we do not claim hands-on testing.
What we look at
- Class and speed. Ebike class (1, 2 or 3), top assisted speed and whether there is a throttle.
- Motor and drive. Hub or mid-drive, stated power and torque, and how well it suits hills and loads.
- Battery and range. Capacity in watt-hours, charge time, stated range and what buyers report in real use.
- Battery safety. Recognised certifications such as UL standards for the bike and battery system, and CPSC notices where relevant.
- Frame and fit. Frame type, step-through options, rider height range and weight capacity.
- Components. Brakes, gears, tyres, lights and racks.
- Weight and portability. Bike weight, folding design and storage.
- Warranty and support. Length of warranty, parts availability and the brand’s track record for support.
- Value. What the product offers for its price tier. We do not show prices because they change often; check the listing for current details.
Sources
We draw on manufacturer specification sheets and manuals, published reviews, buyer feedback, community discussion and official sources such as the CPSC. We link to sources where it helps.
Local rules
Ebike rules vary by country, state and path. Check the rules where you ride before you buy or modify a bike.
Corrections
If you spot an error, tell us and we will review it. Models and prices change often, so we update guides as new information appears.
